Putting maths notation online

Using social media to engage students in mathematical sciences, University of Birmingham, April 2012

by cp!

Please tweet some LaTeX to #hestemsoc

e.g

$\sin(n \pi) = 0$

Use MathJax

Just paste a bit of code into your page's header to load it. You don't need to install any files.

Typesets LaTeX and MathML into nice, clear, readable notation.

\[ \operatorname{erf}(x) = \frac{2}{\sqrt{\pi}} \int_0^x e^{-t^2} dt. \]

Maths in social media

I've written a very long post on my blog about getting maths on your blog.

Summary: you can get it working everywhere except blogs hosted by wordpress.com

Facebook, twitter, etc.

I've written a bookmarklet which inserts MathJax into any page, even if you can't edit it directly.

For example, here's a tweet I tweeted earlier.

Wow! My life can be divided into pre-12/12/11 and post 12/12/11.
